Map & Operating System

Your orientation guide to the Planetary Steward Field Manual — how to navigate, use offline, and begin your stewardship journey.

Questions I'm Solving Here

Before diving into planetary stewardship, here are foundational questions you might not think to ask — ranked by impact on your success.

🧭 Orientation & Navigation (Q1–4)

1. How do I use a 10-file manual without overwhelm? Navigate non-linearly. The Series Map shows your location. Start with your current challenge, not page one.

2. What's minimum viable engagement? Complete the Steward Profile below (~10 min). Everything else is reference material you pull when needed.

3. How do I find specific info quickly? The search bar indexes all content client-side. Type keywords; results appear instantly offline.

4. What if I'm offline in the field? After first visit, everything caches via Service Worker. Notes and progress save locally to IndexedDB.

🎯 Context & Personalization (Q5–8)

5. How do I make this relevant to MY situation? Complete the Steward Profile form below — goals, constraints, region, time available.

6. Solo vs. team vs. coalition — does that matter? Yes. Select your "path" in the profile. This adjusts which sections are emphasized.

7. What if my context changes? Your profile is editable anytime. The manual adapts.

8. Which file should I read next? Unclear on values → File 1. Need situational clarity → File 2. Ready to act → File 4.

🛡️ Safety & Ethics (Q9–12)

9. What are the absolute boundaries? See Risk Boundary Panel below. No violence, coercion, surveillance, or illegal activity guidance. Ever.

10. Am I being manipulated? Every recommendation includes reasoning. No hidden agendas. No tracking. Export or delete your data anytime.

11. What if I need professional help? This manual isn't a substitute for legal, medical, or psychological support. File 8 includes crisis resources.

12. How do I report concerns? Contact info in the footer. Feedback improves future versions.

⚙️ Systems & Technical (Q13–17)

13. What data is collected? Zero external collection. Everything stores locally in your browser. You own your data completely.

14. How does XP/badges work? Optional engagement scaffolding. Reading sections earns XP. Purely motivational; reset anytime.

15. What's the constellation visualizer? Visual map of progress through 10 files. Completed files glow.

16. How accurate is translation? Client-side dictionary for 20+ languages. Usability-focused, not perfect. Critical info manually verified.

17. Can I print this? Yes. Print stylesheet creates clean paper output.

🔄 Continuity & Evolution (Q18–21)

18. How do I generate the rest? "Build the Next File" section below provides the exact prompt to paste into Claude.

19. Can I customize this? These are standalone HTML files. Edit freely. Fork the content. Add your own sections.

20. How often should I revisit? Weekly for active practitioners; monthly for maintenance.

21. What's the relationship to real action? This is a thinking tool, not a prescription. It helps clarify decisions; action happens in your context.

How to Use This Manual

📅 Daily Practice (5–15 min)

Morning: Glance at File 1 (North Star). Ask: "What does stewardship look like in my actions today?"

Decision moments: Jump to File 3 (Decisions), run the hygiene checklist. 3 minutes; prevents regret.

Evening: Note one thing learned in your local notes. File 7 provides reflection prompts.

📆 Weekly Review (30–60 min)

Situational Scan: File 2 — what signals have you noticed this week?

Intervention Review: File 4 — did your actions align with safe patterns?

Community Check: File 5 — relationships maintained? Conflicts brewing?

Personal Health: File 8 — approaching burnout? Self-care skipped?

🗓️ Monthly Deep Dive (2–4 hrs)

Re-read File 1 (North Star) — values shifted? Update profile.

File 9 audit templates — what worked, failed, surprised you?

Revisit each file's "Blind Spots" section. Your context has changed; reassess.

📴 Offline Field Use

Pre-deployment: Visit each file you might need. This caches them locally.

In the field: Open normally. Search, notes, all features work without network.

Sync later: Export profile JSON, import on new device.

Extreme conditions: Print any file. Clean paper output.

Your Steward Profile

All data stays on your device. Nothing transmits externally. Update, export, or delete anytime.

👤Steward Profile
🛡️
Zero-Harm Commitment
What this manual will NEVER help with
Violence or harm — No weapons, sabotage, or endangering life.
Coercion — No manipulation tactics or overriding autonomy.
Surveillance — No tracking, doxxing, or non-consensual data gathering.
Illegal activity — No law-breaking tactics. Legal reform discussed, not violations.
Ecosystem harm — No short-term human benefit at ecological expense.
Discrimination — No targeting individuals/groups based on identity.
What We Offer Instead

For every "hard no," constructive alternatives exist. Conflict? File 5 offers de-escalation. Unjust systems? File 4 covers legal advocacy. The test: If future-you would regret it, don't do it.

Blind Spots & Counterfactuals

What Could Make This Wrong?

Assumption: Basic digital literacy. If supporting someone without these skills, print options become critical.

Assumption: Time for reflection. Immediate crisis? This is a planning tool, not emergency response.

Assumption: 10-file structure fits. Your situation might need different categories. Adapt freely.

Assumption: English-first works. Translations are secondary; critical content should be verified.

What Would Change This?

User feedback showing structure is too fragmented or monolithic would warrant restructuring.

Evidence that gamification distracts rather than motivates → remove it.

Discovery that offline-first architecture causes maintenance burden → simplify.

Next Questions Unlocked

Completing File 0 opens the door to deeper stewardship work. Here's what File 1 (North Star) will address:

  • What are my core values as a steward, and how do I articulate them?
  • What constraints am I operating under that I haven't made explicit?
  • What's my threat model — what failure modes am I most vulnerable to?
  • How do I hold both urgency and patience in tension?
  • What would make me abandon this work, and is that boundary appropriate?

Build the Next File

Copy this prompt and paste it into a new Claude conversation to generate File 1 (North Star). No auto-send — you control when to proceed.

Continue the Planetary Steward Field Manual series. I have completed File 0 (/index.html) — Map & Operating System. Now generate File 1: /01-north-star/index.html This file must cover: - Values, mission, and ethical constraints for stewardship - Threat model: what failure modes am I vulnerable to? - Tension between urgency and patience - Boundaries: what would make me abandon this work? - "Questions I'm Solving Here" (10–25 questions) - "Blind Spots & Counterfactuals" - "Next Questions Unlocked" (teeing up File 2) Requirements: - Standalone HTML, no external dependencies - Same cosmic dark-sky theme, same CSS patterns - Include Series Map with File 1 highlighted - Include gamification HUD, search, translation support - Offline-first with Service Worker + IndexedDB - Zero-harm footer + HTML comment - ~28k token budget, stop at ~80% - Include "Build the Next File" prompt for File 2
